Physicians' Biographies

Dr. EllisonDavid E. Ellison, M.D.


David Ellison graduated from San Mateo High School and attended UC Berkeley, where he graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He subsequently attended UCLA Medical School and completed his residency training at UCLA as well. He is Board Certified in the Academy of Otolaryngolgy-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Ellison joined Ear, Nose and Throat Associates in 1986. While practicing in the community, Dr. Ellison has maintained hospital affiliations at Mills-Peninsula Hospitals, Sequoia Hospitals, and San Mateo Medical Center. He has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UC San Francisco for fifteen years. He has also served as Chief of Otolaryngology at Mills-Peninsula and San Mateo Medical Center, and is currently Chief of Surgery at San Mateo Medical Center.

Dr. Ellison is married with four children.


Dr. BockJennifer Bock Hughes, M.D.


Dr. Bock Hughes joined Ear, Nose and Throat Associates in 1994 as a partner after completing an otolaryngology/head and neck surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She recieved her A.B. in biological sciences from Smith College in 1984 graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She obtained her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in 1989, graduating with highest honors.

Dr. Bock Hughes is board-certified as a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and as a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Professional society memberships include the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, the American Medical Association, and the San Mateo County Medical Society. She maintains active hospital privileges at Mills-Peninsula Hospitals, Sequoia Hospital, and the San Mateo County Hospital.

Since 1998, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Mills Peninsula Medical Group (MPMG), the MPMG Physicians' Compensation Committee, and previously chaired the Medical Utilization Committee. Currently, she is chief of the ENT division at Mills-Peninsula Hospital. Past professional commitments included participation on the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County Medical Society and volunteer service as a clinical faculty member in the otolaryngology department at UCSF.

Dr. Bock Hughes is married with three terrific stepchildren who keep her busy. In her spare time, she enjoys travel with her husband, competitive equestrian sports, running and artistic pursuits.


Dr. GellerAlbert S. Geller, M.D.


Dr. Albert Geller joined Ear, Nose and Throat Associates in 2000 after several years of private practice experience. He was in a group practice in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1973 to 1982 followed by 19 years of solo, private ENT practice in San Bruno. He received his A.B. at Miami University followed by his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed his internship at Denver General Hospital and a prerequisite General Surgery program at Georgetown University Hospitals. His Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery residency was completed at the University of Iowa Hospitals, along with a Master of Science degree from his basic research.

Dr. Geller is Board Certified and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the San Mateo County Medical Association. He maintains active hospital privileges at Mills-Peninsula Hospitals and the San Mateo County Hospital.

In addition to his extensive clinical experience, Dr. Geller has served as chairman of the Professional Relations Committee for the San Mateo County Medical Society and was past chairman of the Otolaryngology Section at Mills-Peninsula Hospitals. He enjoys all aspects of otolaryngology, but has particular interests in sleep apnea, hearing loss in children and adults, and voice problems.

Dr. Geller is married with three grown children and two grandchildren. In his leisure time, he enjoys the San Francisco Symphony, travel and good restaurants.


Dr. ChipmanTerri J. Chipman, M.D.


Dr. Chipman joined Ear, Nose & Throat Associates of San Mateo after 13 years of private practice experience in Palo Alto and Los Altos. She received her undergraduate degree in 1978 at the University of Wisconsin and completed her medical degree in 1982 at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she subsequently pursued an otolaryngology/head and neck surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin affiliated hospitals.

She spent seven years in private practice at Stanford University. Then moved her practice to Los Altos, working out of El Camino Hospital. Finally, she joined Ear, Nose & Throat Associates of San Mateo in 2001. Currently, her interests lie in office-based general otolaryngology for adults & children of all ages.


Dr. LaaneChristina J. Laane, M.D.


Dr. Laane attended Stanford University, earning a B.S. in Biology with Distinction and Honors in 1993. She stayed at Stanford University for medical school, graduating in 1997. For residency training in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, she moved on to University of California at San Francisco. She is now a partner in Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of San Mateo, having joined the practice in 2002.

Dr. Laane is board-certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, and the San Mateo County Medical Society. She sees patients at both the San Mateo and Redwood City office locations and has hospital privileges at Sequoia Hospital, the Mills–Peninsula Hospitals and at the San Mateo Medical Center County Hospital.

Dr. Laane was raised in Texas, but now enjoys living in California. In her free time, she looks forward to traveling, attending cultural events and spending time with her husband, family and friends.



Dr. YipHelena T. Yip, M.D.


Dr. Helena Yip graduated from San Leandro High School. She attended the University of California, Berkeley as a UC Regent’s Scholar, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in molecular and cell biology in 1996. After earning her medical degree from UCLA, Dr. Yip completed her residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at UC Davis in 2006. She then went to Stanford University for a one year laryngology fellowship where she obtained additional training in the medical and surgical management of voice and swallowing disorders. During her education and training, Dr Yip was involved in several laboratory and clinical research studies of head and neck cancer and swallowing dysfunction. She has participated in medical mission trips to rural Mexico and Ecuador, where she was a volunteer surgeon performing cleft lip and palate repair.

Dr. Yip joined Ear Nose and Throat Associates in 2007. She is board–certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Yip has a special interest in voice and swallowing disorders, but enjoys all aspects of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. She sees patients at both the San Mateo and Redwood City office locations and has hospital privileges at Sequoia Hospital, the Mills–Peninsula Hospitals and the San Mateo Medical Center. Dr. Yip is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

In her free time, Dr. Yip enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends.
